Limits on grades of 3

As of 1 January 2009, all grades of 3 will be classified as fail grades. 

Any grades of 3 awarded before 1 January 2009 will still be counted as conceded passes, and will count towards your degree.

Limits on conceded pass grades pre-2009

Faculty academic boards may designate how many units you can receive a minimum passing grade for.

Arts and Social Science

  • Doctoral degree: 0
  • Masters by research: 0
  • Masters by coursework: 1
  • Graduate diploma: 1
  • Graduate certificate: 1
  • Honours: 0
  • Bachelor: 3
If you're upgrading to a higher award, you are only allowed one grade of 3 per cumulative award. This means that if you have a grade of 3 in a graduate certificate, you will not be allowed to get another grade of 3 in a graduate diploma or masters.

Built Environment and Engineering

  • Graduate certificate: 1
  • All other courses: 12.5% of total course credit points

Business

  • Bachelor of Business: 3 (36 credit points)
  • Postgraduate courses: 3 (12 credit points)
  • University Diploma in Business: 1
  • Bachelor of Business (Honours): 1

Creative Industries

  • Bachelor: 12.5% of total course credit points (36 credit points)
  • Postgraduate courses: 3 (12 credit points)
