Academic writing at uni

If you want to find out about how writing at university is different from any other writing you have ever done, then this workshop is for you! You will be introduced to ways of working, academic expectations, and assessment genres at university. We journey through how you start, the middle and finishing successfully on your writing journey. This workshop is targeted at anyone who feels scared, wobbly, and unsure or just needs a refresh on writing skills.

Blackboard Essentials

QUT Blackboard is the University’s online learning environment which offers a range of functionalities including content management, communication and assessment tools. It displays the units you are studying and provides access to all online components of your units including learning materials, online tests and recommended readings. This introduction with provide you with useful learning and study skills.

Discover how to get the most out of lectures and tutorials and how to find the resources and support you need to complete assignments by your deadlines.

Library tours

This tour is much more than a walk around a building because QUT Library is so much more than just a building! Your Library has study spaces, services, resources and people to help you, both at your campus and online.

During O Week, library tours are held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at Gardens Point and Kelvin Grove. Tours depart from HiQ at:

Referencing made simple

Referencing is an important skill that you must use at uni. This session introduces you to the principles and styles of referencing and citing using QUT cite|write. It also explains how you can paraphrase the work of others, avoid plagiarism, and make sure that your work has academic integrity. Sessions are available before, during and after O-Week.

Researching made easy

It's easy to find information but getting the best scholarly information quickly is a skill. After this session, you will use databases more efficiently to find relevant information and current journal articles for your assignments. Sessions are available before, during and after O-Week.
